The return of Superman!!!

Man...the first time I watched Superman, I went like Wow....awesome movie, good acting and cool effects (well....when you're ten years old, seeing Superman fly was a pretty big thing). I always been a big fan of Superman 1 and 2...Christopher Reeve was the best Superman/Clark Kent whereas Margot Kidder added life to Lois Lane. Then came, the TV Series which of course made Teri Hatcher a huge star. To me, she and Dean Cain were nothing much other than pretty versions of their respective characters. Later on, Smallville premiered and it never caught on to me (don't ask me why though). So, you can imagine my excitement at the prospect of Superman returning and being helmed by none other than Bryan Singer (excellent director of X-Men 1 & 2). The really sad news was that he was not gonna be directing X-Men 3 (a serious tragic loss to the franchise I felt).

Managed to catch Superman during the weekend. I can honestly say that I really did enjoy myself. It was a action packed show that had alot of emotions. The effects were really good as compared to the older versions. Him flying around the city landscape was breathtaking and not at all fake I felt. When he took Lois Lane for a fly-over (hahahahaha), that moment was really awesome. Great cinematography I must give credit for. As for acting-wise, Brandon Routh did an OK job as Superman/Clark Kent. I somehow felt he was better as Clark Kent. His resemblance to Christopher Reeve in terms of looks and voice is uncanny. Kate Bosworth I felt was rather disappointing as Lois Lane. She failed to capture the spunk and independentness of Lois Lane as Margot Kidder did in the earlier movies. Plus, she looked really young to fit her role. Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor was quite good...he has this aura of sadisticness and fun to him. Loved the part where he mentioned Krrrryyyppptonite. Overall, I felt it was a really good movie although sometimes, it felt more like a tribute/homage to the older Superman movies and because of that, lack originality. If I had to choose between watching X-Men 3 and Superman Returns again, hands down...Superman Returns would win. A great show that had action, emotions and great directing. Kudos Bryan Singer!

Once more, movie update list....
